About

Jarvis Kaplan Squash Interprovincial

Cape Town

Host province, Western Province, which scored  a double win in both the Jarvis (Men) and the Kaplan (Women) Cups in Port Elizabeth in 2013,  could well repeat the double when the 2014 event starts  in Cape Town on Monday 14th July running until Friday 18th July.

Western Province A with the inclusion of newcomer Jonathan Kemp (Eng) in the number 2 slot, Shaun le Roux ranked 52 in the world, Clinton Leeuw now coaching in America, Rodney Durbach and Zuko Kubukeli all members of the victorious side in 2012 and 2013 should edge through with their strongest opposition likely to come from  their arch rivals Kwazulu Natal, victors in 2010 and 2011.

Ranked 21 in the world, Steve Coppinger leads the Kwazulu Natal line-up of Hungarian, Mark Krajcsack, Gary Wheadon, Andrew Martin and Adrian Hansen.

Central Gauteng’s team of Eddie Charlton, Thoboki Mohohlo, Devon Hendrickse, Mike Tootill and Paul Atkinson should finish in third position above SACD which has imported Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad, ranked 18 in the world.

The wooden spoon position is likely to be fought out again between Border and Northerns.

Competition also likely to be razor edged in the Kaplan Cup with Western Province fighting it out n Friday morning with Central Gauteng . Western Province were triumphant in 2009,2011 and 2013 with Central Gauteng winning in 2010 and 2012.

For Western Province, 2014 sees Line Hansen of Denmark, ranked 24 in the world, back in action supported by SA National champion, Siyoli Waters in the number 2 slot, followed by Sacha West, Karen Blom and Karen Schultz. Central Gauteng’s trump card could well be in the form of Harvard student, Amanda Sohby, ranked 13 in the world.   Cheyna Tucker, Elani Landman, Diana Haynes, Lume Landman and Sharon le Roux complete the inland team’s line-up.
